Psalm 78:21–22 (ESV): “21 Therefore, when the Lord heard, he was full of wrath; a fire was kindled against Jacob; his anger rose against Israel, 22 because they did not believe in God and did not trust his saving power.”
The unfaithfulness of man is primarily fueled by unbelief. We walk in our ways rather than His because we don’t fully believe and trust in God. Consider this and build yourself up in the Lord so that you can be faithful!
Asaph writes of the historical unfaithfulness of the people of Israel in this psalm. He begins by reminding them of their captivity in Egypt. They were in captivity because they forgot God and lived for themselves. Even after witnessing the miracles God performed, they quickly forgot Him. Asaph continues by highlighting their entrance into the Promised Land. The Lord removed nations so His people could see His might and power, yet they still set up high places and worshiped other gods. Asaph declares their unfaithfulness to be an issue of unbelief—they did not believe God or trust in His saving power.
What is your lifestyle declaring before God? Does He see evidence that you believe and trust Him, or does He see the opposite? What more must He do to prove that He is everything He says He is? Take a moment today to truly consider what your lifestyle is saying to God. If it declares unbelief, repent and ask Him to build your faith and reliance on Him. God is not just something we add to our lives—He is to be our life. Amen?
Father, search me and know me, and see if there is any wicked way in me. I believe, but help my unbelief. Take control of my life, and let my life declare to the world that I believe and trust in You. In Jesus’ name, amen.
