Psalm 68:19–20 (ESV): “19 Blessed be the Lord, who daily bears us up; God is our salvation. Selah 20 Our God is a God of salvation, and to God, the Lord, belong deliverances from death.”
Love makes people do some outlandish things. Emperor Shah Jahan built the Taj Mahal to express his love for his wife. The city of Petra is said to have been built by the Nabataean king to demonstrate his love for his queen. However, nothing compares to what God has done to express His love for us. He sent His Son on our behalf to save us. “Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.” – John 15:13
David had in mind the victory march into Jerusalem when he brought the Ark of the Covenant back into the city. He reflected on how God had protected and delivered him in battle. David knew his life had been preserved in war by God. He was his salvation—not just spiritually but physically. David mentions here that God “daily bears us up,” meaning He takes our burdens and stresses upon Himself. David experienced the love of God through all of these great acts.
Do you know how much God loves you? It’s incredible, isn’t it? He doesn’t just put up with you—He genuinely has tremendous affection for you. He has demonstrated this not only by daily bearing you up but even more so by providing a means of salvation for you. How can you not feel loved by God when He has gone to such extreme measures to demonstrate His love for you? You are loved more than you will ever know.
Father, what can we say but that we love You back? You took the first step toward us, and we will forever be in a perpetual state of responding to You. Thank You for loving us unconditionally and for providing a way of salvation. All glory to You, in Jesus’ name, amen.
