Psalm 56:8-9

Psalm 56:8–9 (ESV): “8  You have kept count of my tossings; put my tears in your bottle. Are they not in your book? 9  Then my enemies will turn back in the day when I call. This I know, that God is for me.”

God sees you! He takes note of every tear. It might not feel that way, but it’s true. He is for you and is at work in you through your suffering, so don’t lose heart.

David wrote this psalm during a time of great distress in his life. He was being pursued by Saul and found himself in the camp of the Philistines. Although he was alone and scared, David knew God was with him. He knew that God had recorded every moment of anguish and captured every tear in His heavenly bottle. David trusted that God was for him, and thus his enemies would be dealt with by God.

Do you feel beaten down and worn out from the trials of life? Take heart because all of it serves a purpose. God is with you and for you. Whatever He is allowing in your life is ultimately for your betterment. He cares so deeply for you that He captures your tears. Don’t lose heart, for these momentary afflictions are not worth comparing to the glory that awaits you. Press on toward the prize of the upward call of God.

Father, we thank You that You are with us and for us. Help us to keep our hearts focused on You and not on our circumstances. You are more than enough for us in every trial, so help us to press on. We pray this in Jesus’ name, amen.
