Psalm 53:2–3 (ESV): “2 God looks down from heaven on the children of man to see if there are any who understand, who seek after God. 3 They have all fallen away; together they have become corrupt; there is none who does good, not even one.”
Contrary to popular belief, no one will get to heaven simply because they are a good person. The only one who is truly good is God. No one can be justified before Him based on their own merits.
David, a man who loved God, recognized that he was not inherently good. He understood the depravity of his own heart and acknowledged that he was inherently sinful. He knew his only hope for heaven was through a provision made by God. Without it, David realized he was completely lost.
Do you think you’re a good person? The Bible defines good as perfect or righteous. That’s why it says no one is truly good (Romans 3:10-12). Our righteousness comes through Christ, who is the provision God has given to us. On Judgment Day, God will not weigh your good deeds against your bad ones. Instead, He will consider what you have done with His Son. Faith in Him is the only way to heaven. Amen?
Father, we thank You for making a way for us to become righteous through Your Son. Thank You for giving us hope when we had none. Help us to rejoice in and share the Good News of what You have done. In Jesus’ name, amen.
