Psalm 51:10-12

Psalm 51:10–12 (ESV):10 Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me. 11 Cast me not away from your presence, and take not your Holy Spirit from me. 12  Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and uphold me with a willing spirit.”

The faithfulness of God to forgive and restore us is beyond comprehension. The only person who remains unforgiven is the one who refuses to humble themselves and accept the cleansing power of the blood of Jesus Christ.

When David was confronted by Nathan about his sin with Bathsheba, he penned this psalm. You can hear the anguish in his words—he wasn’t just sorry; he was truly repentant. He came clean before God, and the Lord didn’t merely forgive him but also restored him to a right relationship with Himself. David’s prayer for a pure heart and a renewed, steadfast spirit was answered because God is a God of forgiveness and restoration.

Are you walking in the restorative joy of your salvation? You won’t experience it until you come clean before God. Jesus shed His blood so that we could be forgiven and restored. He is the only way. So, what are you waiting for? Humble yourself in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up. Turn—or return—to the Lord today and receive His forgiveness and restoration. He’s waiting for you.

Father, we thank You that we can be forgiven and restored as many times as it takes. Where sin abounds, grace abounds even more. I confess my sins to You. Wash me clean and restore me through the blood of Your Son. In Jesus’ name, amen.
