Psalm 106:19-22

Psalm 106:19–22 (ESV): “19  They made a calf in Horeb and worshiped a metal image. 20  They exchanged the glory of God for the image of an ox that eats grass. 21  They forgot God, their Savior, who had done great things in Egypt, 22  wondrous works in the land of Ham, and awesome deeds by the Red Sea.”

Forgetfulness becomes more of an issue as we get older. But as concerning as that can be, there’s something even worse—forgetting what God has done in our lives. It’s the remembrance of His faithfulness that keeps us anchored, that keeps us from drifting.

The psalmist reminds us of the incredible ways God delivered Israel from Egypt. He parted the Red Sea, made water flow from a rock, sent bread straight from heaven—miracle after miracle. And yet, in the wilderness, they forgot. They turned their backs on the living God and settled for a lifeless idol. After all they had seen, they still traded His glory for something worthless.

Before we shake our heads, let’s be honest—haven’t we done the same? We may not be bowing to golden statues, but how often do we put our trust in things that can’t save us? How often do we chase after security, success, or comfort instead of holding fast to the One who has never failed us?

Don’t forget God, friend. Keep your heart and mind fixed on Him. Remind yourself daily of His goodness, His provision, and His power. He has done great things—don’t let them slip from your memory.

Father, we praise You for Your faithfulness in our lives. You have provided for us in ways we didn’t even see coming—physically, spiritually, and beyond. Help us to remember, to hold fast to all You’ve done, and to never trade Your glory for anything less. In Jesus’ name, amen.
