Proverbs 3:5-6

Writer: Tim RomeroTim Romero

Proverbs 3:5-6 (ESV): “5  Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. 6  In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.”

Trusting God is one of the most foundational principles in the Christian walk. God has proven Himself trustworthy. This means we are to wait in a posture of surrender to Him, ready to obey His commands. We can do this because God has consistently shown Himself to be trustworthy.

Solomon instructs his son to live in total surrender to the Lord—to trust in Him not partially, but wholly, with all his heart. This kind of trust cannot exist without a relationship. He goes on to say that his son must learn to lean on God’s understanding, not his own, and to acknowledge Him—that is, to invite Him into his daily life. If he does, God will set him on the straight path.

How are you trusting God today? He will accept nothing less than all of your trust. It’s natural for us to trust someone—most often, ourselves—but that will lead us astray. Our understanding is flawed. God is the one we must trust with all our hearts. He has proven Himself faithful. Invite Him into your daily life and decision-making. He will set you on a path that leads to the mountaintop. Trust the Lord!

Father, we thank You that You have invited us to trust in You. You have made it easy for us by proving, time and again, that You are trustworthy. May we abandon our own thoughts and ways and trust in Yours. We pray this in Jesus’ name, Amen.
