Proverbs 28:13

Proverbs 28:13 (ESV): “Whoever conceals his transgressions will not prosper, but he who confesses and forsakes them will obtain mercy.”

Covering up sin is damaging in more ways than one. Not only does it weigh us down, but it also causes our very bones to wither. David said in Psalm 32:3, “For when I kept silent, my bones wasted away through my groaning all day long.” Repent—and be freed from the damaging effects of unconfessed sin.

Solomon counseled his sons to live a life of repentance. He understood the burden sin places on the soul. It robs us of the blessings and peace of God. God is a God of mercy, and He desires to extend that mercy to every individual—but we must turn away from our sin and repent. Solomon knew that the abundant life God has for us—the freedom and joy He longs to give—can only be experienced through a lifestyle of repentance.

Do you have unconfessed sin in your heart? If so, it’s time to turn from it, confess it, and receive the mercy and forgiveness of God. The Lord isn’t trying to shame you; He wants to restore you. He has a far better life for you, but sin separates us from Him. Get rid of the things that are weighing you down today. Christ died to set you free.

We are promised that “if we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9). Take God up on His offer today—and repent. Amen?

Father, thank You for Your mercy and grace. You have provided a means of forgiveness through Your Son. May we daily confess our sins so that we might live the abundant life You desire for us. In Jesus’ name we pray, amen.
