Proverbs 12:25

Writer: Tim RomeroTim Romero

Proverbs 12:25 (ESV): “Anxiety in a man’s heart weighs him down, but a good word makes him glad.”

The worries of life can be extremely heavy at times. Thankfully, we have the Lord, who says, “Come to me, all who are weary and heavy laden, and I will give you rest” (Matt 11:28). He is our encourager, and His Word brings a peace that surpasses understanding.

Solomon reminds his sons not only to seek encouragement from others but also to be encouragers to those who have lost perspective. When the weight of the world is on their shoulders—or on the shoulders of those in their path—they should either look for or be a source of encouragement. Doing so will bring perspective and hope in every situation.

Are you anxious today? Do you feel the weight of depression upon you? Seek Jesus and His people. They will encourage you with the perfect word for your situation. Then you can be a source of encouragement to others. Never forget to give back what you have received. The Lord comforts us so that we can be a comfort to others (2 Cor 1:3-4). Look to the Lord to lift your countenance today—He will surely do it through His Spirit, His Word, or His people. Then, be a source of encouragement to others. Amen?

Father, we thank You for encouraging us in every season of life. You are a good Father, and we deeply appreciate how You look after us. Remind us that we have a constant source of hope in You—not only for our own benefit but also to share with others. We love You. In Jesus’ name, amen.
