Proverbs 11:2

Writer: Tim RomeroTim Romero

Proverbs 11:2 (ESV):  “When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with the humble is wisdom.”

We all have the same nemesis within us—his name is pride. He will cause you to think more of yourself than you ought. Wisdom flees from his presence. Beware, lest you play the fool.

Solomon knew that the greatest danger for his sons would be pride, and their greatest blessings would come through humility—because with humility comes wisdom. For the Lord resists the proud but gives grace to the humble. Solomon knew this well and thus became the wisest man in the world because of his humility. He desired what was best for his sons, and they would only be wise if they remained humble.

Do you consider yourself the most humble person you know? If so, your nemesis is running the show. Humility isn’t thinking less of yourself; it’s thinking of yourself less (read that again). You are most certainly playing the fool if you are walking in pride.

It will only lead to destruction in the end.  Humble yourself before the Lord, and He will lift you up. Amen?

Father, thank You for modeling true humility in and through Jesus. He humbled Himself and became obedient to death—even death on a cross! May we humble ourselves in the same way. All glory and honor to You, we pray, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
