2 Kings 5:19-20

2 Kings 5:19–20 (ESV): But when Naaman had gone from him a short distance, 20 Gehazi, the servant of Elisha the man of God, said, “See, my master has spared this Naaman the Syrian, in not accepting from his hand what he brought. As the Lord lives, I will run after him and get something from him.”

Greed will cause people to do all kinds of unscrupulous things.  You know you are infected when you step on anyone, including family, to get what you want.  Beware!

After Naaman was healed of his leprosy, he returned to Elisha and said, “Behold, I know that there is no God in all the earth but in Israel; so accept now a present from your servant.”  When Gehazi (Elisha’s servant) saw Elisha refuse the gifts from Naaman his heart burned with greed.  He followed Naaman and asked for a talent of silver and two changes of clothing.   When he returned to his home Elisha asked where he had done.  Gehazi lied to him and then was struck with leprosy.

What strikes the chord of greed in your heart?  What is it that you covet?  Is it your neighbor's spouse or possessions (Ex 20:17)?  It’s important to know so you can guard yourself against them.  Beware of the things that entice lest they capture and imprison you.  Contentment is our greatest defense against greed.  Be satisfied in the Lord and with what He has provided.  That is how you guard against greed! Amen?

Father, we thank You for all that You provide for us.  Keep our hearts satisfied in You so that we don't look elsewhere.  You are more than enough for us.  May we live in this vein we pray in Jesus' name, amen.
