2 Chronicles 36:22-23

2 Chronicles 36:22–23 (ESV): 22 Now in the first year of Cyrus king of Persia, that the word of the Lord by the mouth of Jeremiah might be fulfilled, the Lord stirred up the spirit of Cyrus king of Persia, so that he made a proclamation throughout all his kingdom and also put it in writing: 23 “Thus says Cyrus king of Persia, ‘The Lord, the God of heaven, has given me all the kingdoms of the earth, and he has charged me to build him a house at Jerusalem, which is in Judah. Whoever is among you of all his people, may the Lord his God be with him. Let him go up.’ ”

It’s true that God means what He says and says what He means. He will fulfill His plan exactly as proclaimed.

The Lord spoke prophetically through Jeremiah that His people would be in captivity in Babylon for seventy years (Jer 25:12). This would come by way of a new regime. Babylon would be conquered by the Persians, and God would use King Cyrus to restore His people and temple. It was accomplished exactly as God had said.

Do you trust the prophetic Word of God? If so, how does that affect your reaction to world events today? God has a plan, and you can rest assured that everything is in accordance with His prophetic Word. Presidents and nations come and go, but the Word of God is eternal. Rest in His plan!

Father, we thank You for giving us Your prophetic Word. Protect our hearts from fear as You work to accomplish Your will. We pray in Jesus’ name, amen.
