1 Samuel 23:28-29

1 Samuel 23:28–29 (ESV): “28 So Saul returned from pursuing after David and went against the Philistines. Therefore that place was called the Rock of Escape. 29  And David went up from there and lived in the strongholds of Engedi.”

The model prayer given to us by Jesus includes a petition of deliverance against our temptations and enemies. “And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one (Matt 6:13).”   The Lord is faithful to provide a way of escape!

Saul relentlessly pursued David all of his days. His jealousy fueled his rage daily.  Saul even attempted to kill his son Jonathan because he helped David escape (1 Sam 20).  Saul was unsuccessful in every attempt because the Lord was with David.  Every plan Saul made was thwarted.   God provided a way of escape for David at every turn just as He promised He would do for the people of Israel (Deut 28:7).  He is faithful!

What evil are you facing today?  Did you know that God is faithful to provide a way of escape?  God is the waymaker.  He will provide a way of escape from your temptations (1 Cor 10:13), but also from the evil one (2 Thess 3:3).  Take refuge in the Lord.  He will deliver you from the hand of your enemy.  Listen for His voice and then do exactly what He says.  Amen?

Father, we thank You for being our Deliverer.   You never fail us.  May we keep our eyes fixed on You in every circumstance and do what You say we pray in Jesus' name, amen.
