Zechariah 8:11-12

Zechariah 8:11–12 (ESV): "11 But now I will not deal with the remnant of this people as in the former days, declares the Lord of hosts. 12 For there shall be a sowing of peace. The vine shall give its fruit, and the ground shall give its produce, and the heavens shall give their dew. And I will cause the remnant of this people to possess all these things."

God will not allow His children to suffer persecution and hardship forever. There is coming a day when the true followers of Jesus Christ will experience the fruit of heaven in the presence of our glorious God and King. Don't sweat the momentary afflictions for the eternal weight of glory is coming (2 Cor 4:17)!

When the first wave of exiles returned from Babylon they faced great opposition from the Samaritans (Ezra 4) because they refused to allow them to help with the rebuild of the Temple considering their Assyrian roots. They discouraged the remnant and threatened them continually. God speaks through Zechariah here that this will no longer be the case. He will bring peace to the remnant and they will enjoy the prosperity of the land He has given them.

This is a picture for all Christians! God promises His remnant of true believers peace and rest. Jesus will return and take us home! We are exiles in a land of hostility towards our King. He will not let this continue forever. He will come to take His Bride from this earth at the appointed time and we too will have the peace and prosperity of the place He has created for us to dwell forever. Keep looking up while building the Kingdom. Don't stop working till He comes! Amen?

Father, thank You for encouraging us continually by reminding us that we have a future and hope through Jesus. Things will not remain as they are. You have something far better in store for those who belong to You. May we remain faithful until you come we pray in Jesus' name, amen!
