Zechariah 4:6–7 (ESV): "Then he said to me, "This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel: Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit, says the Lord of hosts. 7 Who are you, O great mountain? Before Zerubbabel you shall become a plain. And he shall bring forward the top stone amid shouts of 'Grace, grace to it.'"
Have you ever noticed that the work God calls you to is always beyond your ability? That isn't coincidence. We serve an extraordinary God who uses us in extraordinary ways to accomplish His extraordinary plan. Don't get overburdened by the vastness of the work Christian. God will supply your every need.
That's what is being revealed to Zechariah regarding the work of rebuilding Jerusalem after the Babylonian captivity. Zerubbabel and the people were overwhelmed by the pile of rubble that was once the temple and the city walls. The work that God called them to seemed impossible and it was in their own strength! However, consider the word given to Zechariah for Zerubbabel: not by might, not by power, but by my Spirit says the Lord! The work was extraordinary and thus the Lord sent extraordinary power to accomplish it. This mountain of rubble didn't stand a chance against the Spirit of God!
When you find yourself overwhelmed by the work that God is called you to stop and remember it's not by might or power you will accomplish these things, it's by the Spirit of God! Let the Spirit do the work in and through you and once the task is complete you will be able to proclaim it was all a work of grace!
Father, we thank You for giving us extraordinary work as well as the power through Your Spirit to accomplish it. May we never attempt to do anything You've called us to in our power. We will just become weary and burdened.Let us trust in Your Spirit and be obedient to His leading. We surrender to Your Spirit even now, have You way we pray in Jesus name, amen!
