Zechariah 2:3–5 (ESV): 3 And behold, the angel who talked with me came forward, and another angel came forward to meet him 4 and said to him, "Run, say to that young man, 'Jerusalem shall be inhabited as villages without walls, because of the multitude of people and livestock in it. 5 And I will be to her a wall of fire all around, declares the Lord, and I will be the glory in her midst.' "
God is our strong tower, the righteous run to Him and are safe (Pro 18:10).We need not seek any other means of protection for He alone is enough.
Zechariah was a prophet that lived in Jerusalem after the seventy-year captivity in Babylon. His prophecy came just two months after Haggai's first word from the Lord. His message was one of near, mid, and long-term fulfillment. He spoke of Messiah and the need for Israel to return to God.In a vision, he sees Jesus (the Angel of the Lord) who tells him that although Jerusalem is without walls it is better protected than they could imagine. The Lord would be their walls and He would protect them.
So often we can trust in some physical means of protection rather than the Lord.He ought to be the One we put all our trust in. That doesn't mean we shouldn't have "walls" but we definitely shouldn't trust solely in them.Trust in the Lord to protect you always and then take whatever precautions you feel led to take while keeping your trust in Him alone.Amen?
Father,we thank You for being all we need in life. We thank You that we are never in a state of weakness if we are in You because You are with us and for us, who can be against us?Help us to keep our trust in You alone and never in anything of this world we pray in Jesus' name, amen.
