Romans 6:12-14

Romans 6:12–14 (ESV): "12 Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, to make you obey its passions. 13 Do not present your members to sin as instruments for unrighteousness, but present yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life, and your members to God as instruments for righteousness. 14 For sin will have no dominion over you, since you are not under law but under grace."

Freedom from tyranny is a premise Americans relish in. For freedom we have been set free! The same is true in the spiritual realm. We are dominated and mastered by sin but Jesus came to set us free for freedom's sake. No longer are we dominated by the tyrant! Think about that.

When people are set free to be free they can walk unrestricted on whatever path they choose. Paul reminds us that this is the kind of freedom we have in Jesus. He will not control us so we must choose to walk in righteousness and not sin. It's a choice! The strong man has been bound in Jesus' name so choose to walk away from him and not back to him.

If you are free from the tyranny of sin, how are you using that freedom? Are you walking in the newness of life or do you find yourself like the dog who returns to its vomit? You are free to walk in righteousness friend! Don't let the tyrant sway you back into bondage. Let the love of Christ compel you to choose freedom. Obey Christ in the freedom you've been given and you will remain free. How cool is that?

Father, we thank You for freedom through the death of Your Son. Help us who have been set free to remain free by walking in the Spirit and not in the flesh. Remind all believers of this choice we have and help us to choose well we pray in Jesus' name, amen.
