Romans 11:5–6 (ESV): "5 So too at the present time there is a remnant, chosen by grace. 6 But if it is by grace, it is no longer on the basis of works; otherwise grace would no longer be grace."
Amazing grace, how sweet the sound that saved a wretch like me! There is no greater gift man has been given by God than His amazing grace.
Paul, reminding the Roman believers that although Israel had abandoned God, God had not abandoned Israel. He has preserved a remnant, not because they deserved it but because He is faithful. It's by His grace that Israel will be restored. They were chosen initially by grace and they will be restored by grace. God will complete His work because it is a work of grace and not merit.
I'm thankful that salvation is a gift of grace and not of works. Because of that, we never have to wonder if God has abandoned us. He who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ. (Phil 1:6). You can trust in the finished work of Jesus. You and I need not work our way to God for He has already worked His way to us.
Now the works that we engage in are purely a result of the grace we've been given. To Him be all the glory!
Father we do thank You that You are so incredibly faithful to us. We ask that as You remain faithful to us that we too remain faithful to You. Repurpose our hearts and put a passion for Your glory within that we would live each day pursuing that goal of bringing glory to Your name. In Jesus name we pray, amen!
