Romans 1:1-2

Romans 1:1–2 (ESV): "Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus, called to be an apostle, set apart for the gospel of God, 2 which he promised beforehand through his prophets in the holy Scriptures."

Understanding your purpose in life is so important. You will never know your purpose until you understand your identity. We are sons and daughters of the Most High God in Christ Jesus, that is our identity. Our function is to carry on the family business of taking the Gospel into all the world!

Paul opened up his letter to the Romans with a statement of purpose. I am Paul, first and foremost, a servant of Christ Jesus. That isn't his identity but his function. He is doing what Jesus tells him to do. Positionally he was called by Jesus to serve Him as an Apostle, a sent one, by Jesus for Jesus. Paul was sent as an official messenger to relay to the world the life-changing message of the Gospel, which was promised by all the prophets through the Scriptures. Paul ran his race well!

How are you running your race? Do you understand that being a Christ-follower is who you are? You are IN Christ, He is your identity. Your purpose is to tell as many people about Him, His death and resurrection, as you can. We are His servants and sent ones called by Him to preach the Good News. It's so easy to get distracted and talk about everything else but the Gospel. Live set apart for the Gospel and stay true to the family business of setting captives free, amen?

Father, we thank You for calling us by name to become children of God. May we live up to our name and represent You well. Help us to not get distracted in this life but to stay focused on the task You have sent us to accomplish we pray in Jesus' name, amen!
