Revelation 16:17–21 (ESV): "17 The seventh angel poured out his bowl into the air, and a loud voice came out of the temple, from the throne, saying, "It is done!" 18 And there were flashes of lightning, rumblings, peals of thunder, and a great earthquake such as there had never been since man was on the earth, so great was that earthquake. 19 The great city was split into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell, and God remembered Babylon the great, to make her drain the cup of the wine of the fury of his wrath. 20 And every island fled away, and no mountains were to be found. 21 And great hailstones, about one hundred pounds each, fell from heaven on people; and they cursed God for the plague of the hail, because the plague was so severe."
The finale of any given spectacle is usually the greatest. In the end, when God pours out his final bowl of wrath upon the earth it will not disappoint. The destruction that will ensue will be like nothing mankind has ever experienced.
John sees the seventh angel pour out the final bowl. It comes with a mighty pronouncement that IT IS DONE! The fury of God is complete. The earth has experienced the full brunt of God's wrath. This judgment brings an earthquake like no one has ever seen. It levels the mountains and sinks the islands. The hailstones are one hundred pounds each. The damage they will do will be of epic proportion. The great city of Babylon is divided, the economical system, the social system, and the religious system is conquered. Our God has won the battle!
For believers, the words "IT IS FINISHED" mean something totally different. No longer are we plagued by the ramifications of sin and death. Our Lord has conquered all for us. If you are in Christ it is finished. You can rest in His work. Celebrate the great salvation you have been given in Jesus today and smell the sweet savory aroma of victory!
Father we thank You for the finale that occurred when Jesus rose from the grave. Sin and death were defeated for anyone who places their faith in Jesus. Remind us of the victory we have been given. We need not get depressed for the banquet is coming. We will celebrate forever the salvation that was won on our behalf. Encourage us to encourage others with this truth we pray in Jesus name, amen!
