Revelation 14:14–16 (ESV): "14 Then I looked, and behold, a white cloud, and seated on the cloud one like a son of man, with a golden crown on his head, and a sharp sickle in his hand. 15 And another angel came out of the temple, calling with a loud voice to him who sat on the cloud, "Put in your sickle, and reap, for the hour to reap has come, for the harvest of the earth is fully ripe." 16 So he who sat on the cloud swung his sickle across the earth, and the earth was reaped."The patience of God is beyond our comprehension. He will wait for the world to be over ripe before bringing judgment upon it. Don't mistake his patience for His approval.
John sees a man who appears to be Jesus coming on a cloud with a sickle in his hand which is a harvesting tool. Jesus waits to swing the sickle until the Father gives the command. An angel coming from the temple (Gods presence) announces that the judgment is now at which point Jesus then swings the sickle and cuts down the wheat and the tares. Another angel then comes and harvests the clusters of grapes (vs 17-20) and tosses them in a wine press where blood flows in gruesome fashion as high as a horses bridle in an area of about 180 miles. This is known as the battle of Armageddon.
The wrath of God is a serious thing. Thankfully the wrath we deserve was satisfied by the blood of our Lord Jesus Christ. He took our wrath upon the cross thus faith in His death and resurrection ensures us freedom from this judgment. However, we are called to a harvest and our means is the Gospel of peace. The hearts of many are ready to receive but the laborers are few. Partake in the harvest. Go and share Jesus before the harvest of wrath comes upon this world. It is the most feared event in the history of mankind. Herald the Good News while you still can!
Father we thank You for satisfying our wrath upon the cross by the giving of Your Son. His blood protects us from the judgment to come. May we live to tell others how to escape judgment and experience the mercy and forgiveness that we have been given. We desire to be Your workers so use us however you see fit in Jesus name we pray, amen.
