Psalm 84:1–2 (ESV): "1 How lovely is your dwelling place, O Lord of hosts! 2 My soul longs, yes, faints for the courts of the Lord; my heart and flesh sing for joy to the living God."

The longing for heaven has been put in the heart of every man (Ecc 3:11). We long not for streets of gold but for the one who dwells there, the Lord God on high.He is what makes heaven lovely. Thus our longing is ultimately for a person, not a place.

Many attribute this psalm to David written during his exile from Jerusalem due to the rebellion of Absalom. David wasn't so much longing for a place but a person. He knew that heaven is only heaven because it's God's dwelling place. It's a similar desire to what Joshua felt.He didn't want to leave the Tent of Meetings because God was there (Ex 33:10).David's soul could only be satisfied by the Lord, not a place but a person.

What are you chasing after to try and satisfy your soul? You thirst for heaven, for the presence of God, not some earthly thing. No earthly relationship or amount of wealth, success, or pleasure will ever be able to satisfy your soul. Only God can do that. When He does you will sing like never before. You don't have to wait to be satisfied.Look to the Lord, seek His presence and you will find true satisfaction for your soul.

Father, thank You for putting a longing in our hearts for You. We would be lost in a sea of hopelessness had You not.Help us to never be fooled into thinking something temporary could ever satisfy.May we only seek You and You alone in Jesus' name, amen.
