Psalm 66:8-12

Psalm 66:8–12 (ESV): "8  Bless our God, O peoples; let the sound of his praise be heard, 9  who has kept our soul among the living and has not let our feet slip. 10  For you, O God, have tested us; you have tried us as silver is tried. 11  You brought us into the net; you laid a crushing burden on our backs; 12  you let men ride over our heads; we went through fire and through water, yet you have brought us out to a place of abundance."

The purpose of trials is to burn off the things that ultimately weigh us down. God is at work through hardship to bring us to a place of abundance! That is why we can praise Him in the storm.

The psalmist (who many believe to be Hezekiah) is praising God through his hardship for he understood the endgame. God was bringing him to a place of abundance in Him. He says, "God is worthy of my praise because he keeps my soul alive and anchors my feet. Even through the fiery trials that have the appearance of defeat God is using them for victory's sake. Fire brings purity!"

The truth of God's Word is meant to help us understand why we can "consider it pure joy when we encounter various trials (Jam 1:2)" because God is "working all things together for the good of those who love Him (Rom 8:28)." Believe that and receive it today. Your hardships are being used by God to refine and purify you and to bring you to place of abundance. Rejoice and praise God then and trust the process! Amen?

Father, thank You for the refinement we need to become more like Jesus. We praise You through the pain and long for Your best in our lives. Let us resist You not as You work diligently in our lives through ALL THINGS to make us more like Your Son we pray in Jesus name, amen.
