Psalm 16:9-10

Psalm 16:9–10 (ESV): "9  Therefore my heart is glad, and my whole being rejoices; my flesh also dwells secure. 10 For you will not abandon my soul to Sheol, or let your holy one see corruption."

The resurrection promise of God is our anchor of hope in the most perilous of times. It declares to us that although we shall surely die, we shall surely live!

Psalm 16 is considered a Messianic psalm. David is writing about his own life but the Holy Spirit was also referring to Jesus. Some believe these are some of the words Jesus prayed in the Garden of Gethsemene just before He was arrested and went to the cross.

David discovered the secret of contentment and great gladness in hard times through his faith. He knew God was with him and would see him through even the grave. No matter what he faced he had hope because not even death could keep him down. The resurrection hope became an anchor to him in hard times.

When Jesus went to the cross He had total confidence in the resurrection. Although it would be incredibly painful to die on the cross Jesus knew it wasn't the end of the story. He knew Sunday was coming when He would rise from the dead in victory. The resurrection of Jesus is a declaration to us that Jesus' sacrifice was sufficient. It shows that His payment for sin was perfect and complete giving all those who put their faith in Him resurrection hope.

What are you fretting about Christian? Jesus Christ has overcome the grave. Although this life is difficult never forget it is only temporary. Keep your eyes on eternity and let the resurrection be your anchor of hope in the tumultuous seas of life. Jesus rose victorious for you. There is hope so rest in Him. Let His resurrection bring you gladness and security all the days of your life knowing that you too will rise again. Amen?

Father, thank You for giving us an anchor of hope in Your Son and His finished work on the cross and resurrection from the dead. Let us rejoice and find total peace that no matter what we too will rise to victory because of our faith in Jesus. Remind us daily of the hope we have and may that fuel us to live for eternity we pray in Jesus' name, amen.
