Psalm 135:5-6

Psalm 135:5–6 (ESV): "5  For I know that the Lord is great, and that our Lord is above all gods. 6  Whatever the Lord pleases, he does, in heaven and on earth, in the seas and all deeps."

God is Lord overall. There is nothing that transpires in our world that He is not in control of. You can fully rest in Him because He is on the throne ruling over the affairs of our lives.

The psalmist is describing God as the ultimate ruler and authority in heaven and on earth. He describes the Lord as great! He is not just average but He is supreme and above all else. There is none like Him. He does whatever He wants to whomever He wants whenever He wants. Who else can this be said of? No one can compare to the sovereignty and omnipotence of our God! He stands alone in greatness.

In a world that feels so out of control, these thoughts should bring us incredible comfort and peace. Our God is not passively sitting back allowing the world to work itself out. He is actively present working to accomplish His will in the lives of every human being that exists. The world isn't out of control, it's in the hands of the One who is in control of all things. God is worthy to be trusted so don't fret the things going on. Look to Him and let His sovereign hand comfort you. Amen?

Father, we thank You for being sovereign and in control. No one can stand up to Your might and power. You work all things out for the good of those who love You. May we rest in the shadow of Your wing and never question Your goodness. Have Your way in us, Lord. Do what You must to make us more like Jesus we pray in His mighty name, amen.
