Psalm 133:1-2

Psalm 133:1-2 (ESV): "1 Behold, how good and pleasant it is when brothers dwell in unity! 2 It is like the precious oil on the head, running down on the beard, on the beard of Aaron, running down on the collar of his robes!"

Unity is essential to the body of Christ. Without it we will not be honoring to God nor will we be able to accomplish His purposes. True unity comes through the Cross of Christ and the anointing of the Holy Spirit.

David was called to be King over Israel and this brought great discord amongst many who were pro King Saul. After receiving the throne through much anguish David finally got to experience the blessedness of unity within the nation of Israel. 2 Samuel 5:1 says "Then all the tribes of Israel came to David at Hebron and said, "Behold, we are your bone and flesh." The nation was finally unified and could now fully accomplish all that God had for them.

David likens unity to the anointing of the priest. What a powerful picture of the anointing of the Holy Spirit.  God's people need this anointing in order to be unified and like-minded. We will never be able to fully accomplish God's will on a global level without the unity of the saints. The Gospel is a unifying message declaring all have sinned and fallen short. No one is above another, we are all in the same boat…sinners in need of a Savior. The enemy wants to sow discord amongst the brethren because it will hinder the work we are called too, namely the Gospel going forward. Stand in unity with your brothers and sisters. Don't fight against the anointing of the Holy Spirit. He will lead us into perfect unity. Let Him guide you today and let's unite and be a testimony of what the Gospel can do!

Father, thank You for unifying us with Yourself through Your Son Jesus. Without the reconciliation we were in desperate need of we could have never been brought back into unity with You. May we as Your children stand in unity through the Spirit all the days of our lives. Let us not allow the enemy an opportunity to sow discord amongst us. We want to be used by You so we must be united with one another. If there is anyone we need to make amends with today bring them to mind and help us to move forward in forgiveness and humility for Your namesake we pray in Jesus' name, amen!
