Psalm 124:1-3

Psalm 124:1–3 (ESV): "1  If it had not been the Lord who was on our side— let Israel now say— 2  if it had not been the Lord who was on our side when people rose up against us, 3  then they would have swallowed us up alive, when their anger was kindled against us;"

If it had not been for the Lord we would have no hope in this life. Take a moment and breathe that in then thank God for all He has done in your life.

When David penned this psalm I have to imagine a flood of emotion came over him like a tidal wave. He is thinking about the Savior of Israel coming to their rescue nationally yes, but also personally no doubt. David, along with the nation of Israel, had experienced the deliverance of God over and over again and it must have overwhelmed him to think about that. God is the same yesterday, today, and forever. He continues to deliver!

Any one of us could have written this psalm for God has delivered us over and over again. Without the Lord intervening time and time again we would have been a hopeless case but God rescued us from our sin, our enemies, and from our troubles in general. He has done so much that we lose track of all the things He has done. Take a few moments today and complete this sentence for yourself, "if it had not been the Lord..." and then thank the Lord for His relentless love and glorious deliverance.

Father, thank You for saving us. Our lives would be totally pointless had You not sent Your Son Jesus to redeem us. You made a Way when there was no way. Time and time again You have done this in our lives and we want to say thank You. May we never cease to praise You for who You are and what You have done in Jesus' name we pray, amen!
