Proverbs 16:5

Proverbs 16:5 (ESV): "5  Everyone who is arrogant in heart is an abomination to the Lord; be assured, he will not go unpunished."

God hates pride because it deceives us into thinking far too much about ourselves when we should be thinking about God and others. God is quick to humble us before pride destroys us.

Solomon reminds us of the age-old problem of pride here. Everyone struggles with it, some less than others. Remember it was by pride that Eve ate of the fruit of the tree thinking God was keeping her from something better. Satan is the master at resurrecting our pride. He knows every trick in the book to deceive us into thinking what God says is not true.

Beware of the soft whispers of the devil in your daily life. The flesh struggles enough without the enemy. Don't allow pride any room to rise up for it will bring a downfall (Pro 18:12). God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble. So be humble (Ja 4:6; 1 Pet 5:5)! Keep your heart surrendered to God and reject the lies of the enemy and pride will be far from you. Amen?

Father, we thank You for being faithful to us. How great and awesome are Your ways? Change our hearts to match that of Yours. May we take on the humility of Christ and live a life totally given over to You. Protect us from self-preservation and self-love. May we belong wholly and solely to You we pray in Jesus' name, amen.
