Proverbs 15:1;4

Proverbs 15:1;4 (ESV): "1 A soft answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger. 4  A gentle tongue is a tree of life, but perverseness in it breaks the spirit."

Our speech can either escalate or deescalate a situation. It can either build up or tear down. Be careful about how you speak!

Solomon reminds his son of the power of the tongue. It is greater than we realize. James said, "the tongue is a small member, yet it boasts of great things. With it, we bless our Lord and Father, and with it, we curse people who are made in the likeness of God. From the same mouth come blessing and cursing. My brothers, these things ought not to be so" (Ja 3:5;9-10).

If we desire to calm a situation we need to keep our speech calm. We can control the outcome of a conversation by controlling our tongue. The same holds true for the kind of language we use. Don't speak profanely and perversely, it will break your spirit. Speak positivity and goodness and it will be a tree of life. The moral of the story is: your words are doing far more than you think. So watch what you say for it won't just affect your spirit but the spirit of others.

Father, thank You for giving us all we need for life and godliness. You are the Provider of all. May we use our mouths to bring honor, glory, and praise to Your name and never to defame You or Your creation. Let us speak the truth in love and be seasoned in speech always we pray in Jesus' name, amen.
