Philippians 4:11-13

Philippians 4:11–13 (ESV): "11 Not that I am speaking of being in need, for I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content. 12 I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need. 13 I can do all things through him who strengthens me."

The secret sauce for believers being contentment in all things is a reliance on the strength of Jesus and not oneself. Christians can get through anything through Christ because His grace is sufficient in our weakness.

Paul knew what it was like to go without. He also knew what it was like to have ample supply. His source of strength to handle excess and persevere in times of need was Jesus. Notice the words, "I have learned to be content." No one is born content, we must learn this trait. The main lesson is knowing where to find strength in all things. Paul was dependent on Jesus and thus he was content in all things.

How do you respond to the circumstances of life? Are you learning to be content? God allows us to be put into positions that are beyond our strength so that He can teach us this important lesson. Take note of how content you are in any given scenario and it will reveal who you are trusting in. Look to Jesus! He is the strength we need to get through all things. Amen?

Father, we thank You for giving us all that we need for life and godliness. May we look to You for strength to be content in all things we pray in Jesus' name, amen.
