Philippians 1:9-11

Philippians 1:9–11 (ESV): "9 And it is my prayer that your love may abound more and more, with knowledge and all discernment, 10 so that you may approve what is excellent, and so be pure and blameless for the day of Christ, 11 filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God."

Love is the most essential characteristic a believer must abound in. However, love is not the only thing we need. God's people must also abound in knowledge and discernment. When we couple these together we are a force to be reckoned with.

The church in Philippi was loving yet Paul prays that they would abound more and more in love. That is to say, it doesn't matter how loving we are we can still abound more in it. His prayer was also that they would abound in knowledge and discernment. Love without these will be mishandled and taken advantage of. Love with these things produces the ability to approve what is excellent so that the fruit of righteousness might show itself pure and faultless in those who are in Christ and bring glory to His great name.

When is the last time you prayed for your brothers and sister to abound in love, knowledge, and discernment? What an amazing prayer to pray. Not only do we need to abound in these things but so do others. Pray for God's people to abound in these so that they can approve of those things that are excellent. It brings the most honor and glory to Jesus when we are operating in all three of these, love, knowledge, and discernment. Pray for them to this end. Amen?

Father, we thank You for filling our hearts with Your love. May we abound all the more in it but also in knowledge and discernment. Open the floodgates Lord that You might be glorified all the more we pray in Jesus' name, amen, and amen!
