Obadiah 3-4

Obadiah 3–4 (ESV): "3  The pride of your heart has deceived you, you who live in the clefts of the rock, in your lofty dwelling, who say in your heart, "Who will bring me down to the ground?" 4  Though you soar aloft like the eagle, though your nest is set among the stars, from there I will bring you down, declares the Lord."

Pride is the root of all sin. It will keep us self-reliant and self-focused. Pride has never done anything but produce damage in the lives of those it possesses. Check yourself before you wreck yourself.

The Edomites were descendants of Esau. Obadiah is told by God to prophesy against them because they were a thorn in the side of Israel. They didn't stand for Israel but rather fought against her. When the children of Israel were coming out of Egypt into the Promise Land the Edomites would not let them pass through their land (Num 20:14-21). They were prideful people that dwelt in the cliffs of Mount Seir. Their false sense of security made them all the more prideful. God declares He will humble them as a result.

God will not contend with your pride Christian. He is incredibly patient and slow to anger but He hates pride and will humble those who walk in it. Humility says, "God I need You", pride says, "I only need myself." Don't be deceived by the securities and comforts of this world. Keep your heart centered on the Lord and His greatness alone. You will never have to worry about falling into pride if you do...amen?

Father, we thank You for revealing Yourself to us. You alone are great and we want to depend solely on You. Keep the eyes of hearts turned upward, fixed upon You, trusting only in You. Keep pride far from us we pray in Jesus' name, amen!
