Numbers 9:6-8

Numbers 9:6–8 (ESV): "6 And there were certain men who were unclean through touching a dead body, so that they could not keep the Passover on that day, and they came before Moses and Aaron on that day. 7 And those men said to him, "We are unclean through touching a dead body. Why are we kept from bringing the Lord's offering at its appointed time among the people of Israel?" 8 And Moses said to them, "Wait, that I may hear what the Lord will command concerning you."

It's a grave error to speak on God's behalf without first inquiring of Him. If it isn't written in His Word then we must not speak about it until we have prayed about it.

As the children of Israel were getting into full swing of celebrating the festivals a question came up regarding the Passover. Unclean people were not permitted to bring their offering to the Lord. Certain men wanted to better understand why so they asked Moses. He didn't speculate but rather asked God why. The Lord told him that these men could keep the Passover 30 days after they were clean. So they could come on the fourteenth day of the second month rather than the first.

Our modern-day Passover celebration is known as Communion where we partake of the bread and cup in remembrance of the body and blood of Christ. We must come in a worthy manner lest we are struck with sickness or even worse (1 Cor 11:27-34). We should do this as often as we like as long as it's done as prescribed by the Lord. Let us never begin to make up our own rules about how and when we partake and God forbid we ever answer a question regarding it from our human understanding. Let us always seek the Lord for answers to questions that aren't in the Bible. These are His rites and thus we have no right to make up our own rules. When questions come that are not answerable from the Scriptures let us seek the Lord before we speak and then only say what He shares with us to say.

Father, we thank You for the example we have in Moses here. He doesn't speak on Your behalf without first inquiring of You. Forgive us for airing our opinions about what we think You mean regarding certain subjects. Let us never utter a word that isn't explicitly given to us by You. We thank You that You are faithful to speak when we come and ask in Jesus' name we pray, amen!
