Numbers 35:1-2

Numbers 35:1–2 (ESV): "The Lord spoke to Moses in the plains of Moab by the Jordan at Jericho, saying, 2 "Command the people of Israel to give to the Levites some of the inheritance of their possession as cities for them to dwell in. And you shall give to the Levites pasturelands around the cities."

As the royal priesthood of God (1 Pt 2:9) we are scattered throughout the land to be ministering agents for His glory. May we always remember we are planted with great purpose. Fulfill your ministry, Christian.

The Levites were the only tribe that was not given land as an inheritance. They were given the Lord as their inheritance. There are many reasons why but perhaps the most important one is that they would always remember the mission they were called to. God told Moses to have the Levites as God's representation to be scattered throughout the Promised Land as ministering agents and reminders to the Children of Israel of their calling. All the other tribes were responsible to give to the Levites to provide for them. The Lord would be their portion forever.

Similarly, you and I are in a sense the same as the Levites. We are dedicated to the Lord's service and thus we aren't concerned about earthly possessions. Our inheritance awaits us. Let us not grow weary in represent the Almighty in every place He puts us. May we be honored to be the ones who are called His royal priesthood, living stones and the tabernacle of God. Don't get distracted Christian. Remind the whole world of the great thing God has done for us in sending His Son!

Father, how wonderful You are to us. We can get so distracted at times from the great call You have put on our lives. Forgive us for not paying more attention. Remind us today of the wonders of the Cross and may that rekindle a passion to share with those around us the salvation offered to all men. Keep us souled out to You alone we pray in Jesus name, amen.
