Numbers 1:2–3 (ESV): 2 "Take a census of all the congregation of the people of Israel, by clans, by fathers' houses, according to the number of names, every male, head by head. 3 From twenty years old and upward, all in Israel who are able to go to war, you and Aaron shall list them, company by company."
Enlistment into God's army isn't an option but a requirement for those who call themselves Christians. Don't go AWOL, embrace the call.
Moses was instructed by God to take a census in order to organize and prepare His troops for battle. Every male twenty and above was automatically enlisted. There was no opting out of this. The only tribe exempt from enlistment was the Levite's for their enlistment was to God alone in the Tabernacle. After Moses finished counting all the males twenty and above from each tribe there was an army of 603,550.
Although we don't know how many Christians are alive today what we do know is that not everyone has fully embraced the call. The Lord's army is to take the world by storm with the Gospel and yet ninety-five percent of all Christians have never won a soul to Christ. Eighty percent of all Christians do not consistently witness for Christ. Less than two percent are involved in the ministry of evangelism. Seventy-one percent do not give toward the financing of the Great Commission. It's a staggering reality that many have gone AWOL.
Rise up Christian and embrace the call. Get engaged in building the kingdom while you still can. There are many that desire to surrender but they need to hear the Good News so they know how (Rom 10:13-17). Fall inline today and obey the voice of your commanding officer (the Holy Spirit) and share the Gospel!
Father, we thank You for sending Your soldiers to reach us. We were lost and You showed up in tangible form and shared the Good News with us. Forgive us for not following through with our calling to make disciples. Put a passion in our hearts for the lost and open doors daily for us to share and give us the boldness to do so we pray in Jesus name, amen.
