Nehemiah 6:12-14

Nehemiah 6:12–14 (ESV): "13 For this purpose he was hired, that I should be afraid and act in this way and sin, and so they could give me a bad name in order to taunt me. 14 Remember Tobiah and Sanballat, O my God, according to these things that they did, and also the prophetess Noadiah and the rest of the prophets who wanted to make me afraid."

In a world full of fake news we must use spiritual discernment to know what is real and what is not. Regardless of the outcome, our response should always be the same for we walk by faith, not by sight.

When things were going well for Nehemiah and in Jerusalem, the surrounding nations couldn't stand it. All of the enemies of Judah conspired to harm Nehemiah thus they sent a messenger to him requesting that he meet with them but Nehemiah declined multiple times. So they sent him an open letter accusing him of conspiring against the King of Peria hoping that this would stir him to meet and still he declined. Finally, they sent him a false prophet who "warned" him of a plot to kill him in the night. He was invited to come to the temple for safety. Nehemiah knew this was not of God for they were trying to move him to fear not faith.

Like Nehemiah, we must discern the spirits and see if they are of God. God will always give us the opportunity to exercise faith but not all messages are from God. Paul knew what he faced in Jerusalem but that didn't stop him from going because he knew the Spirit was speaking. It's not that the Spirit won't reveal hard things to us but when He does we are immediately met with the peace that surpasses understanding. God gives us faith to overcome the fears that we face. Use discernment when listening to others for the enemy's intention is to move you to fear but God's purpose is to move you to faith. Amen?

Father, thank You that You use the wiles of the enemy to strengthen our relationship with You. The more we face fear the more we have the opportunity to trust You. Let us not be moved by what we hear from the messengers but let us consider how that coincides with Your Word and what You say. Give us faith in response to all of it we pray in Jesus' name, amen.
