Matthew 9:36

Matthew 9:36 (ESV): "36 When he saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd."

Jesus sees the world through the lens of compassion. His heart breaks for helpless people who are wandering through life with no hope. This moves Him to act in radical ways to provide a way of escape. May we have the same heart as Jesus did.

As Jesus walked the roads of Israel He couldn't help but notice the utter despair the world was in. He saw people harassed by principalities and powers, totally helpless against the wiles of the enemy. He likened them to sheep who are truly helpless. They have no way to defend themselves. They need to shepherd to protect and lead them to green pastures.

The compassion of Christ should flow through the veins of every believer for the lost. They are helpless apart from Christ. Not one of them can overcome demonic influence and sinful habits apart from Him. May we move with compassion and give lost people what they need most...Jesus. Only He can set them free, amen?

Father, we thank You for Your benevolence and loving-kindness towards us. You remained compassionate at our worst moments in life. May we reflect Your heart towards the lost and point them to the Good Shepherd who can protect and guide them to green pastures. Flood us with compassion we pray in Jesus' name, amen.
