Matthew 7:11

Matthew 7:11 (ESV): "11 If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!"

The goodness of God is displayed in the fact that we can ask, seek, and knock with the expectation of God giving us good things. He will not give us that which is harmful to us.

Jesus speaks about the nature of God in this passage. He is truly a good Father. He wants to work in our lives and respond to our prayers favorably. He isn't trying to hold anything back from you and me. Thus those who ask, seek, and knock can expect Him to answer according to His goodness. He will not give us something evil in trade for what is good.

Are you asking, seeking, and knocking for the right things? Don't be surprised if God answers back with a hard no. James reminds us that we can ask for anything but we will not receive if we ask amiss (Ja 4:3). John said we can have confidence that if we ask anything according to His will He will hear us (1 Jn 5:14). We must ask, seek, and knock with the right motives and then leave the rest in God's hands. He is a good Father, He will work according to His goodness, amen?

Father, we praise You for being so good to us. You have done more than we could ask or dream of. May we surrender to Your will and be good to one another for Your honor and glory we pray in Jesus' name, amen.
