Matthew 5:6

Matthew 5:6 (ESV): "6 "Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied."

Desire is the engine that drives the heart of man. Whatever a person desires most is what he will pursue. May righteousness be the overwhelming desire of our hearts!

The fourth Beatitude Jesus speaks about is the blessedness of the person who hungers and thirsts for righteousness. What He is describing here is a person who is utterly desperate to obtain these necessities of life (food and water) knowing that without them they will die. The words "hunger" and "thirst" are present active participles meaning they are to be acted on immediately and continuously. Jesus promises those who desire righteousness in this way shall be satisfied.

What do you desire most in life? Is it a big house and a nice car or is it a Christ-like walk with the Lord? Whatever you desire most will become the driving force of your life. Take some time to evaluate your heart today. Ask yourself, am I desperate to know God more or am I content enough that my sins are forgiven that my desires have shifted to this temporary life? Make knowing God the necessity of your life and you will be continually satisfied now and for all eternity!

Father, thank You for putting the desire to know You in our hearts. May this be the pursuit of our lives until You call us home in Jesus' name, amen.
