Matthew 5:5

Matthew 5:5 (ESV): "5 "Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth."

The most powerful men in the world can be the most prideful. The godly man ought never to let pride well up as a result of the power they've received. As uncle Ben told the young Peter Parker, "with great power comes great responsibility."

The third Beatitude that Jesus proclaims is relating to man's relationship to one another. Jesus said blessed, "oh how happy", are the meek. This word in ancient Greek can only be understood using multiple English words. To summarize, meekness is "power under control." It's a type of humility that enables a person to not be easily angered but also not pushed around. Jesus is the perfect example of this. For such a one as this God promises success in this life. The meek shall inherit the earth.

God requires that those He uses must operate in meekness. He has no tolerance for those who operate in pride. He opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble (Ja 4:6). Never forget that all your abilities and power came from Him. May we operate in meekness and fulfill His perfect plan in us.

Father, we thank You that You can take sinners and restore us and use us for Kingdom work. What a privilege it is to be called and equipped by You. May we walk in meekness so that we can inherit the earth for Your glory we pray in Jesus' name, amen.
