Matthew 2:1–2 (ESV): "Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the east came to Jerusalem, 2 saying, "Where is he who has been born king of the Jews? For we saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him."
This song says it all about the Star of Jacob, "Star of wonder, star of night. Star with royal beauty bright. Westward leading, still proceeding. Guide us to thy Perfect light." God has always used light to draw us to Himself. Jesus is that Perfect light!
After Jesus was born the prophetic star of Jacob (Num 24:17) appeared to wise men in the east. They were Magi who read the skies. They knew this star was special, a sign that they were to follow. So they set out on their journey to Jerusalem. They arrived several months later in a band of far more than three with gifts galore! They knew the star would lead them to the King of the Jews and it did! When they found Jesus, they bowed before Him and worshipped Him as the King of kings and Lord of lords.
God has long been speaking to us through His creation. Romans 1 says all we have to do is look around and we will see His handiwork. Let the moon and the stars serve as a reminder to us that Jesus is the King and worthy to be worshipped. As we celebrate Jesus this Christmas season, rejoice with gladness for the King has come and is coming! Bow down before Him and honor the Perfect light who came to give us life. Amen?
Father, how amazing You are. You have given us sign after sign of Your existence and love since the beginning of time. The greatest sign was the giving of Your Son. As we celebrate this Christmas season let us remember all that You have done to save us from our sins. May we now down and worship the King we pray in Jesus' name, amen.
