Matthew 16:23

Matthew 16:23 (ESV): "23 But he turned and said to Peter, "Get behind me, Satan! You are a hindrance to me. For you are not setting your mind on the things of God, but on the things of man."

Being rebuked by Jesus is never fun but how grateful we are that He does lest we walk in deception and end up wrecking our lives. Oh, how happy is the man that hears this rebuke and repents.

When Jesus told His disciples He was going to die Peter took Him to the side and said, "Far be it from you, Lord! This shall never happen to you." Jesus then rebuked Peter for he was acting like Satan who cares not about the things of God but only of the things of man.

It's a bad day when Jesus calls you Satan however it's a good day at the same time for then we have an opportunity to see the difference between the things of God and man. God's will doesn't take us down the easiest road but down the difficult path that leads to life. He doesn't take us out of the storm but sends us unto it. Man on the other hand makes decisions that lead to ease, comfort, and pleasure. That was Satan's path as well and look where it got him. Follow the Lord and keep your eyes on eternity for this life is fleeting. Amen?

Father, thank You for being so good to us. When we are unfaithful You remain faithful. Thank You for rebuking us at times and reminding us to keep a loose grip on this world. To You be the glory and glory forever and ever we pray in Jesus' name, amen.
