Matthew 13:23

Matthew 13:23 (ESV): 23 As for what was sown on good soil, this is the one who hears the word and understands it. He indeed bears fruit and yields, in one case a hundredfold, in another sixty, and in another thirty."

Every farmer knows that the condition of the soil will determine the fruit of the seed. That is why they take great care to prepare the land before seeding. They know the seed is fruitful in and of itself. It's the soil that must be conditioned for the seed so that it can bear fruit!

Jesus, speaking about the importance of the condition of our hearts tells a parable, which is an earthly story that has a heavenly meaning, about a sower who sows seed, which is the Word of God, onto the wayside, the rocky ground, the thorny ground, and the good soil. Only the good soil bears lasting fruit. Jesus' point is that if we don't have a genuine heart when reading the Word we will never become fruitful.

What does the condition of your soil look like Christian? When you open up the Word of God have you plowed the field through prayer? Have you prepared for the Seed of the Word to come in and take root? Spend time preparing your soil through prayer and repentance before sowing the seed. You will see the Word become far more effective and fruitful in your life. Amen?

Father, we thank You for reminding us to take care of our hearts. We know it's from the heart where all the issues of life come. Cleanse our hearts, make it good soil so Your Word can bear much fruit we pray in Jesus name, amen.
