Matthew 10:34

Matthew 10:34 (ESV): "34 "Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I have not come to bring peace, but a sword."

The Gospel message is not a message that brings world peace but personal peace. It is foolishness to the Gentiles and a stumbling block to the Jews (1 Cor 1:23). It will divide families, friends, and nations. Universal peace is coming but not until Jesus comes again.

Jesus told his disciples that they were to acknowledge Him before man and that if they didn't He would deny them before His Father. He goes on to talk about the division the Gospel of peace would bring. It will divide even the most intimate relationships. This is the cost to follow Christ. He said if His disciples chose father or mother or any relationship over Him they were not worthy to follow Him. Whoever finds His life will lose it but whoever loses his life for His sake will find it.

Don't be surprised if you lose every human relationship as a result of living for the Lord. It is inevitable because the Gospel confronts the sin of man and some people will take offense to that. It's the message that is offensive and causes division but at the same time, this is the only message that can save. Love is willing to risk all for the sake of the Gospel that some would be saved. Share the Gospel Christian and let the chips fall where they may. Amen?

Father, we thank You for the faithfulness of some who were willing to risk it all to share the Gospel with us. May we be the same kind of people who love You more than life itself and are willing to give up all to be Your disciples. Fill us with faith that we would never choose the world over You no matter the cost in Jesus' name, amen.
