Matthew 10:16-18

Matthew 10:16–18 (ESV): "16 "Behold, I am sending you out as sheep in the midst of wolves, so be wise as serpents and innocent as doves. 17 Beware of men, for they will deliver you over to courts and flog you in their synagogues, 18 and you will be dragged before governors and kings for my sake, to bear witness before them and the Gentiles."

Jesus didn't send out an elite group of warriors to take over the world but sheep. Christians aren't part of a covert operation to save this world but to save people for the next world. His Kingdom come!

After calling His disciples and sending them out two by two Jesus gets real about persecution. Christians in the world are like sheep among the wolves. We are not to fight back and retaliate but to be wise and gentle. When we are delivered before governors and kings for our faith know it's to be a witness to them.

Paul when imprisoned for Christ praised God. He led many of the guards in Caesar's household to Christ (Phil 4:22). He understood the purpose of imprisonment. When the time comes for you to be delivered before rulers and authorities for your faith don't forget it's so you can be a witness for Christ. Never forget your lane, Christian. We have a gospel to preach even unto death. Be His witness and represent His kingdom well, amen?

Father, we thank You for sending sheep in the world who are helpless and harmless. May we be dependant on the Good Shepherd and go where He leads us. Help us not to forget our witness when it comes time to stand before the rulers of this world we pray in Jesus' name, amen.
