Mark 2:16-17

Mark 2:16–17 (ESV): "16 And the scribes of the Pharisees, when they saw that he was eating with sinners and tax collectors, said to his disciples, "Why does he eat with tax collectors and sinners?" 17 And when Jesus heard it, he said to them, "Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. I came not to call the righteous, but sinners."

Jesus came to save sinners. To do so, He needed to spend time with them and gain their trust. He was very intentional about offering hope to the hopeless. Sadly, the ones who should have been the most compassionate (the righteous) were the most judgmental towards His methods of ministry. Nevertheless, He continued ministering according to His mission.

Jesus faced constant resistance from the religious leaders. They stood in objection to the people He was ministering to as if He ought not to have any interaction with those who were known sinners. The reality is the sins the religious leaders were living in were far greater than that of the general sinner. The religious leaders were making sinners twice the sons of hell by their false prescription for righteousness and yet they were condemning Jesus for "eating with sinners."

Religious folks will be your worst critics. They are not filled with grace but the burden of the law and want you to heap on you the requirements that they can't meet. Stop listening to the noise and follow the Spirit. We are here to help other sinners come to know Jesus. Don't violate scripture or put yourself in a compromising position to do so but certainly don't let religious people hinder you. Sow grace and love followed by change and obedience. That is the method Jesus used and it is the one we ought to as well, amen?

Father, thank You for loving us as You do. Help us to listen to Your voice alone and never the voice of the enemy who was sent to discourage us from following Your will. We want to see sinners saved so use us today to share the life-changing Gospel to those who do not know you in Jesus name we pray, amen.
