Mark 10:44-45

Mark 10:44–45 (ESV): "44 and whoever would be first among you must be slave of all. 45 For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many."

The ways of this world are contrary to the core of the kingdom of God. This world honors the first and forgets the last. In the kingdom of God, the last shall be first and the first last. In this world, it's all about being served but in the kingdom of God is about serving! Be people of the kingdom of God while in this world!

On the way to Jerusalem, Jesus spoke about His crucifixion in detail and reminded them in three days He would rise again. James and John figured it was their chance to ask for seats of honor in His kingdom. Jesus said it wasn't for Him to give. When the others heard what James and John had asked they were beside themselves. Jesus then addressed the heart of the matter. Kingdom people work to be last and serve everyone. Worldly people serve no one and expect to be first!

Are you living as a citizen of heaven here on earth? It is so easy to seek the pleasures of this world but they won't translate into eternity. Be a servant! Put yourself last and then you will be honored in heaven. Don't get sucked into the culture of meism. Be like Jesus. Serve and love people even when they don't serve and love you. This is the example He left us. Live it out for His glory! Amen?

Father, we thank You for showing us what heaven looks like through the example of Your Son. May we strive to be just like Him and reject the ways of this world. Help us to serve others and put ourselves last we pray in Jesus' name, amen.
