Luke 14:11 (ESV): "11 For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted."
The most foundational principle of the Kingdom of God is walking in humility! Humility is not thinking less of yourself, but thinking of yourself less. Those who are followers of Jesus will follow in His footsteps and live for others and not themselves!
Christians should not live with the mentality of Ricky Bobby, "if you ain't first your last," but with a "last is first" mentality. The Jews in Jesus' day made themselves first in everything. They loved the places of honor at feasts and the best seats in the synagogues. The Kingdom heart directs a person to take the lowest seat to allow others the place of exaltation. Not vice versa!
Christian, the heart of the flesh will make you self-focused. The heart of Christ will make you others-focused. Which heart are you operating under? Those who desire to be first in this life will be last in heaven and those who desire to be last here will be first there. The primary goal is to be exalted by Jesus and not humbled. Apply this Kingdom principle of walking in humility and you won't have to worry about being humbled. Amen?
Father, we thank You for giving us the last-first example in Jesus. He humbled Himself and made others' interests more than His own. Help us to do the same! Fill us with a deep desire to live humbly before You and to not seek exaltation on earth we pray in Jesus' name, amen.
