Luke 11:27–28 (ESV): "27 As he said these things, a woman in the crowd raised her voice and said to him, "Blessed is the womb that bore you, and the breasts at which you nursed!" 28 But he said, "Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and keep it!"
Blessedness is not a state that occurs by chance. It has far less to do with who you are than what you are! A person isn't more blessed because God uses them in a specific way. Real blessedness is found in obediently following Jesus.
The world loves to elevate each other for things they have no control over like what family they are from or the genetics they inherited. They say, "I wish I was blessed like you." That mentality pours over into the church. Mary has been elevated to demigod status in our culture and it was an honorable position God put her in no doubt but Jesus said a person is more blessed by hearing and obeying the Word of God.
Are you living in a state of blessedness today? If not, you can be! You don't have to be born into the right situation to be blessed. You just need to have a heart that is willing to hear and obey the Word of God. You will never be more blessed than when you let God change you from the inside out. Don't just be a hearer of the Word of God, be a doer as well. That is where real blessedness resides. Amen?
Father, we thank You for allowing each of us an opportunity to be blessed. How blessed we are to know and serve You. Help us to continue in this state by being people who hear and obey Your Word we pray in Jesus' name, amen.
