Luke 1:76-79

Luke 1:76–79 (ESV): "76  And you, child, will be called the prophet of the Most High; for you will go before the Lord to prepare his ways, 77  to give knowledge of salvation to his people in the forgiveness of their sins, 78  because of the tender mercy of our God, whereby the sunrise shall visit us from on high 79  to give light to those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace."

One of the great joys of being a parent is dedicating your children to the Lord and to His purposes. It also becomes your responsibility to disciple them on how to live their life for Him. Zechariah knew His role and did it well.

When Elizabeth gave birth to her child they asked her what she would name him and she said, "he shall be called John." Since they had no relatives named John it confused people so then they asked Zechariah and he wrote down, "his name shall be John" per Gabriel's instructions. Immediately Zechariah's mouth was opened and his tongues loosed and he began to praise God. He immediately dedicated his child to the Lord and began to prophesy over him the plans God had in store for him.

Never forget your role as a parent or guardian. It is solely to point the child to Christ and what His will is for them. We confuse children when we overemphasize earthly things and underemphasize heavenly things. They need to hear and see you living out a life that is all about Jesus! As Zechariah did, dedicate them to the Lord and proclaim His purposes over them and don't put to much focus on the temporal. This will serve them well amen?

Father, we thank You for the gift of children and for the purpose they serve in Your eternal kingdom. Fill us with Holy Spirit wisdom and prophetic utterances that can be spoken over them and may we disciple them well we pray in Jesus name, amen.
